Presidential Address

A very warm welcome to Asian Medical Students’ Association Singapore (AMSA SG)! Founded in 1984, we have been striving to empower Singaporean medical students locally and bridge them to international opportunities. Together with our local and international partners, AMSA SG brings to you a wide spectrum of opportunities to explore medicine outside of the curriculum.

Since our founding in the 80s, we’ve been closely linked to the Asian Medical Students’ Association - International (AMSA-I), and have since joined the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) in 2017. Most recently, we became a member of the International Student Surgical Network (InciSioN Global Surgery) in 2024. Every year, our students take part in exchanges, electives, general assemblies and other international conferences all around the world. We’re proud to have had the honour to host some of these events and exchanges ourselves, such as the recently concluded East Asian Medical Students Conference last year, and the IFMSA Sub Regional Training this year. Through our partnerships with AMSA-I, IFMSA, and InciSioN, some of our students also gain the opportunity to represent medical students at high-level decision making bodies such as the WHO Regional and World Health Assemblies. Our connections overseas allow our members to share their ideas and best practices with like-minded individuals all across the globe, and enrich ourselves with knowledge and experiences not found in the classroom.

Locally, our National Programmes department hosts a slate of exciting opportunities for medical students, including our flagship MOHH Healthcare Transformation Internship. Our annual Community Engagement Camp also reaches out to pre-university youths excited to make a change in their community, empowering them with knowledge of the Asset-based community development (ABCD) framework. We continue to emphasise the ABCD framework with our own members, where, in conjunction with AMSA Philippines, we also organise a yearly trip, iHEAL, to the Philippines to test out how ABCD can be used in practice.

As an independent organization with members from all three local medical schools, AMSA Singapore hopes to be the place where medical students can find their calling outside of the curriculum. Join us and experience a journey of endless possibilities, where we shape our own projects, visions and ideas into concrete plans for a better world.

Yours Sincerely,
