Presidential Address

A very warm welcome to the Asian Medical Students’ Association-Singapore (AMSA-SG), an association that aims to empower medical students in Singapore as well as represent them on an international level.

We started off in 1984 as a member of the Asian Medical Students' Association – International. We later joined the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations as a full member in 2017. Today, we remain active in both the local and international scene, with members hosting local community and outreach events and representing us on various global platforms including conferences and exchanges.

We strive towards providing a wide spectrum of exciting opportunities to cater to the interests of different individuals. Together with our local and international partners, AMSA-SG brings to you exclusive opportunities to explore medicine outside the normal school curriculum.

We have established ties with partner countries from IFMSA and AMSA-International, allowing our students to take part in various exchanges, electives, general assemblies and conferences all over the world. In 2019, we also organised and hosted the annual Asian Medical Students’ Conference, attracting 381 delegates from more than 15 countries. Every year, we host several exchanges including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and more. Through these programmes, our members are able to share their ideas in research and community service as well as better understand different cultures.

Locally, our flagship MOH Healthcare Transformation Internship serves as a platform for students to explore and learn about the innovative design process. Programmes such as the annual Community Engagement Conference and Study Trips for Engagement and EnRichment (STEER) Programme provides opportunities for members to further their understanding on various communities and apply it in a real-life context via the Asset Based Community Development model. In addition, we hope to reach out to the pre-medical students to share more about medical school life in Singapore and medicine as a career through our specially tailored outreach programme.

Despite the uncertainties faced as a result of the pandemic this year, AMSA-SG’s goal remains the same. Join us as we embark on a journey of endless possibilities, where we redefine the challenges ahead into opportunities.
